| Guided tours |
The free guided tours of the Historical Centre of Castell d'Aro first began in July 1996, and have continued uninterrupted until now. Later, in August 1999, they also included a guided tour of the Roman Settlement of Pla de Palol, located in the town of Platja d'Aro. More recently, in the summer of 2002 the offer was extended to include a tour of the Camí de Ronda (Coastal Path) of S'Agaró. Since July 1996 and with the successive incorporation of guided tours, almost 100,000 people have enjoyed one of the three proposals.

ROMAN SETTLEMENT OF PLA DE
PALOL
These ruins give us an insight to the secrets and mysteries of Roman culture. The discovery of this ancient world immerses the visitor in the roots of the history of the area. According to all references it was first settled in around the 1st century BC and continued until the end of Roman occupation in the 6th century AD. It would have occupied an area of 10,000 m2, an important part of which corresponded to patios and spacious areas. The settlement exploited the natural resources of the earth, agriculture, as well as wine growing and the extraction of clay for making ceramics. The products obtained were exported by sea through the natural port of Cala Rovira.
